Welcome to the new EGS  e-newsletter. This will be published bi-annually to keep you updated with news of our previous students and of events and reunions that are being held throughout the year.

The Edge Grove Society is launched!

Edge Grove School is  delighted to launch The Edge Grove Society for its past Alumni community. All past pupils, parents, members of staff or previous governors are entitled to automatic membership to the society.

The aim of the Society is to foster a spirit of loyalty and promote a sustained sense of belonging to Edge Grove School. This will be achieved  by actively engaging past members of the Edge Grove community through events and relevant communications. It will enable alumni to strengthen ties between each other and the current Edge Grove community.
Welcome from Paul Haworth, President of The Edge Grove Society
I am delighted to have been invited to be the first President of the Edge Grove Society and warmly welcome this initiative by the school. One of the first events, the Vintage Christmas lunch on the 9th December, was a huge success and showed how much enjoyment there can be in rekindling past friendships. I am therefore keen to encourage the participation of as many past pupils, staff and parents as possible to help to get the Society off the ground. Sue Maughan is the School's recently appointed Alumni and Development Manager. She has been a long-time supporter of the school, and is a past and current parent. Sue has overseen the running of many high profile events such as the enormously successful School Ball several times, and has put in a huge amount of work to help with this launch. We are very fortunate to have such an enthusiastic member of staff and I am confident that the Society will go from strength to strength with Sue's help.

EGS Golf Day September 2017
Old Boys and past parents met for the Edge Grove Society Golf day on September 13th  2017 at Porters Park Golf club in Radlett.
We had four teams from a range of cohorts from 1955 to 2006 all playing together.

Old Boy and Porter Park member Martin Jeens (1956) joined forces with Sean Gorman  and Henry Schreier (1996) and Andrew Robson (1976), giving a fabulous running commentary and history of the course to his team mates whilst walking the undulating course.

Headmaster, Ben Evans joined the teams for dinner and the presentation. Old school photos and diaries were reminisced over and we all agreed that we would make it an annual event and each try to put a team out to make it bigger and better next time.

The 2018 Golf day has been provisionally booked for the morning of
Friday 18th May 2018 at Porters Park and will be open to old Edgegrovians as well as past and present parents. The ticket price will include coffee and breakfast rolls, green fees and a two course lunch. For further details, please email smaughan@edgegrove.com.

On December 9th 2017 we welcomed back 80 Old Boys and their guests who had attended the school between 1935 and 1965. Anyone that we had contact details for were invited and after initially expecting around 20 people to respond we managed to reunite over 55 Old Boys.

Name tags were handed out to recognise each other, and after a glass of prossecco in the library we feasted on a delicious Christmas lunch and were treated to music by the current students. The end of term hymn was resurrected and all were in fine voice, remembering the tune after all those years. It really did bring a tear to the eye.

If you would like to receive an invitation to the next event please ensure you have completed the consent to contact form which can be downloaded form the link at the end of the newsletter and return it to the Alumni and Development department at the school address.
Recent Old Boy Visits
Old Boy Alan Brown (EG  1950-1955) returned in November 2017 to see the Lower School Pantomime and speak to the children about confidence and how drama at Edge Grove was just the beginning of his life on the stage. Alan also attended the Christmas Lunch in December.

Old Boy and past EG art teacher and past parent, John Walton (1937 - 41) visited the school in  November 2017 to give an inspiring talk to the art scholarship group. John is a member of the Royal Society of Portrait painters and up until 3 years ago ran his own fine art school in London. He also returned for the Christmas Lunch with his son James.
It is always a pleasure to welcome back old pupils so if you would like to return to the school and have a tour or come and see the school on a typical working day please email smaughan@edgegrove.com.

We would also like to hear from anyone that would like to submit an update that will be published in the next newsletter.
